Governor Nixon vetoed a bill tripling the state’s mandatory delay for abortion services. Progress Missouri commends Governor Nixon for his veto of this extreme bill. Over 30 anti-women’s health bills were filed this session, while politicians squandered the opportunity to expand access to healthcare for over 260,000 Missourians through Medicaid reform.
“We commend Governor Nixon for this veto. Tripling the mandatory delay for abortion care is about politics, not women’s health.” said Pamela Merritt, Communications Director for Progress Missouri. “It’s time for the leadership in Jefferson City to stop playing political games and focus on the things we all know will make Missourians healthier.”
Missourians are tired of legislators using women’s health care to score political points. Personal medical decisions should be left to a woman, her family, her faith, and her doctor — without interference from politicians. Progress Missouri calls on legislators to stop the political games, and instead focus on increasing Missourians’ access to healthcare.
