MOGOP Leader: Voter Registration in Ferguson is "Disgusting"

LBJ described as the vote as “the most powerful instrument ever devised by man for breaking down injustice and destroying the terrible walls which imprison men because they are different from other men.”

But don’t try telling that to Missouri GOP Executive Director Matt Wills.

On Monday, Wills called voter registration efforts in Ferguson, which has endured days of unrest since the killing of teenager Michael Brown, “disgusting” and “completely inappropriate.”

In a speech delivered in Ferguson on Sunday, Rev. Al Sharpton called Ferguson’s low 12 percent voter turnout “an insult to your children,” and urged residents to register to vote and participate in the democratic process. Activists, organized by local clergy, have set up voter registration booths near areas where demonstrators have been gathering.

Senator Ryan Silvey took to Twitter to disagree with Wills

@RyanSilvey I have NO problem w/ protestors, or ANYONE, getting registered to vote. How do we keep our gov't accountable if not by ballot? #Ferguson

How indeed? The leadership in Jefferson City should keep that question in mind the next time a bill designed to suppress the vote, like Voter ID, floats across their desk.
