Unintended (but predictable) consequences of gun-rights amendment are now biting us

As legislators explore ways to fix Sen. Kurt Schaefer’s (R-Columbia) poorly written gun amendment that allows violent felons to legally carry guns, it looks like Rep. Eric Burlison (R-Springfield) wants to double down on that disaster and make it even worse.

Burlison is pushing a bill modeled after an awful Kansas law that gets rid of the permit and training requirement to carry a concealed firearm in Missouri.

David Rosman has some thoughts on Schaefer and Burlison’s gun bills over at the Missourian.

The current conceal and carry law is quite broad, allowing those who have completed a CCW class in Missouri to carry a concealed weapon, as well as anyone else who from any other state or political subdivision who has completed the class.

So why mess with it? Because Kansas did? I don’t think so.
