Rep. Webber’s Gender Pay Equality Bill Heard in Committee

Rep. Stephen Webber’s (D-Columbia) gender pay equality bill was heard in the Workforce Standards and Development committee.

Missouri women earn an average of 80 cents for every dollar paid to men in the workforce, a gap that exists even in jobs where women make up the majority of workers. (HB 44) would take a solid step toward righting that wrong. The bill would direct the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations to write a “best practices” guide addressing four subjects: defining gender pay equity, explaining why it occurs, lay out the benefits of equity, and detail the ways to achieve pay equity.

"I'm operating under an assumption that Missourians want to get rid of gender pay inequity and that business want to reduce that," Webber said.
