National Groups Hiding in Plain Sight as Local ALEC Leaders Advance Anti-Worker Attacks

Extremists barely advanced paycheck deception legislation (HB1617) in the Missouri House this week, after which Washington, DC corporate interest groups announced that allied politicians would soon vote on so-called ‘right to work’ bills approved by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).

This week’s votes against Missouri workers come after years of relentless advocacy by national extremists groups like the ALEC and the Koch Brothers’ Americans for Prosperity, who have peddled paycheck deception as a path to the so-called ‘right to work’ laws their corporate backers covet.

Paycheck deception and so-called ‘right to work’ bills aren't about jobs — they're about politics, and undermining the basic rights of workers. Corporate front groups like Americans for Prosperity, ALEC and their allied politicians want to weaken Missouri's middle class with laws that will mean lower wages and lower living standards for Missouri. Progress Missouri urges legislators to reject so-called 'right to work' laws, and instead focus on to create good jobs or an economy that works for all Missourians.
