Missouri business leaders support MONA

In Missouri you can still be fired for being gay. The Missouri Nondiscrimination Act, also known as MONA, fixes that. Sponsored by Rep. Stephen Webber (D-Columbia), MONA would add lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals to the Missouri Human Rights Statute. Seems like a no-brainer.

Hart Nelson, representing the St. Louis Regional Chamber of Commerce testified in support of the bill, saying:

“We support laws that will strengthen this region's business climate.”

Express Scripts and Monsanto, some of Missouri’s largest employers, also testified in support. Tricia Workman, a Monsanto lobbyist, pointed out the role state government should take in protecting its citizens adding:

“This should be a state policy, not just an individual business’s policy.”

MONA is not only good for Missourians, it’s good for Missouri businesses. It's time to make the words 'fired for being gay' history.
