House GOPer Launches New Gambit to Close Missouri's Only Remaining Abortion Provider

The Monett Times reports that Rep. Mike Moon, Missouri's leading United Nations conspiracist, is attempting to shutter the one remaining abortion provider in the state. Essentially, Moon is asking the Attorney General to ignore longstanding constitutional protections because he'd rather they didn't exist. RH Reality Check explains:

[Moon] sent a letter to Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster requesting a formal opinion on whether or not the state can enforce a ban on abortion based on the preamble to the state’s constitution, which states that “the life of each human being begins at conception.”

Missouri is one of four states to have laws on the books that would automatically ban abortion if Roe v. Wade were to be overturned, and one of the 11 states that have retained their unenforced, pre-Roe abortion bans.their unenforced, pre-Roe abortion bans.

Explaining his new gambit, Moon endorses complete personhood rights for fertilized eggs, and "made it clear that the intent of the letter is to force the state’s last abortion clinic to close. 'We have one remaining abortion clinic in St. Louis—I think it needs to shut down,' he said."

If you wonder about Moon's grasp of the law, he does too. "I'm not an attorney," he told the Times. "It may be I don't understand everything there is to understand." But he is enrolled in an online course from Patrick Henry College in Purcellville, VA. So there's that.
