Right to Work Bill Being Pushed By Norquist Matches ALEC Model

Earlier this week, Grover Norquist and national extremist groups announced before Missouri leaders that the State House would be voting on so-called "right-to-work" legislation next week. The bill, as shown below, is a direct match for American Legislative Exchange Council's (ALEC) model Right to Work Act.

ALEC Model 'Right to Work' Act

(2) Pay any dues, fees, assessments, or other similar charges, however denominated,

5 of any kind or amount to a labor organization

(C) to pay any dues, fees, assessments, or other charges of any kind or amount to a labor

organization

(3) Pay to any charity or other third party any amount equivalent to, or on a pro

7 rata basis, any dues, fees, assessments, or other charges required of members of a labor

8 organization, in lieu of the payments

(D) to pay to any charity or other third party, in lieu of such payments, any amount

equivalent to or a pro-rata portion of dues, fees, assessments, or other charges regularly

required of members of a labor organization

2. Any agreement, understanding, or practice, written or oral, implied or expressed,

10 between any labor organization and employer that violates the rights of employees as

11 guaranteed under this se ction is declared to be unlawful, null and void, and of no legal

12 effect.

the rights of employees as guaranteed by provisions of this chapter is hereby declared to

be unlawful, null and void, and of no legal effect.
