Jeff City Ethics Still Abysmal

If last week in Jefferson City taught us anything, it's that little has changed

A legislator resigning in disgrace? Check. An ethics reform bill stripped of its teeth to be more lobbyist-friendly? Check.

"Against the backdrop of yet another murky departure of one of their own colleagues, the Missouri Senate approved on Thursday a watered-down version of an ethics reform proposal." Post-Dispatch

The cherry on top of all this was Sen. Ed Emery (R-Lamar) referring to lobbyists as "unpaid staff" he can rely on. [8 minute mark]

An especially rich line coming from a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a corporate-interest sponsored bill mill.

Despite the headlines of ethics reform swiftly moving through the legislature, results are what matter. And it's clear very little has actually changed.
