1%'ers in St. Louis Give Mitt Romney a Warm Welcome

As Mitt Romney makes a campaign stop at Production Products in North St. Louis County, members of the 1% will hand out pink slips to Missouri workers.

Said one of the billionaires attending, "Romney and his investors made millions shipping U.S. jobs overseas and handing out pink slips to working people. His business practices of loading profitable corporations down with debt, stripping away their assets and undermining workers' retirement security embodies the values of today's 1%. What better way to welcome him to St. Louis than firing workers - just like Mitt enjoys being able to do."

Also heading over to the campaign event at 1285 Dunn Road, were retirees, students, Occupy St. Louis protesters and working people fed up with a campaign so detached from reality. "Missourians know the real Mitt Romney," said former auto worker Mark Esters "Mr. 1% was willing to let the entire auto industry go bankrupt - and right here in Missouri, he and his cronies shuttered GST Steel just so they could make a quick profit. Meanwhile, working people are paying the price for his failed economic policies."

"Many of those protesting recently learned more about Romney by watching a short video, Meet Mr. 1%," said Hugh McVey, President of the Missouri AFL-CIO. "With his record of outsourcing good jobs and shuttering factories, and his support of the Ryan budget, Romney has shown his utter lack of concern for the 99% here in Missouri and across the country. That catastrophic budget would include $86.4 million in cuts to Missouri Elementary and Secondary Education and Special Education and a reduction in Pell Grants of $840 per student in our state. Mr. 1% and his failed policies won't work for the 99% of us left behind.”
